The Queen declines Oldie Award: You are as old as you feel

The 95- year old Queen ‘’ politely but firmly’’ turns down a magazine’s award of oldie of the year. She sent a message with her ‘’ Warmest best wishes.’’

Nation’s longest-reigning monarch, she is to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee next year after 7O years, Queen.

The Queen believes she doesn’t meet the criteria for the award. She explains, ‘’ you are as old as you feel.’’ Therefore, she refuses to accept the oldie of the year award.

An aide has revealed that the queen says she feels too young at heart to be awarded the title ‘’ Oldie of the year.’’

According to sources, a letter published in November issue of the Oldie Magazine, her assistant private secretary Tom Laing-Baker, wrote:

‘’ Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such the Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hope you will find a more worthy recipient. ‘’

Previously, the Queen’s late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, was Oldie of the year in 2011.

The author, broadcaster, and the Chairman of the award, Gyles Brandreth, wrote to her private secretary, Sir Edward young, to ask if she would accept the title.

Mr. Brandreth explains the letter as ‘’ lovely’’, saying: Perhaps in the future, we will sound out her Majesty once more.’’

The oldie of the year award is given to the older generation of 29 years, including community care nurses, veteran athletes, and well-known figures such as the late actress Dame Olivia de Havilland and the Artist David Hockney was given the award.

The suggestion for Queen came from one of the judges named Dame Maureen Lipman. For the leadership of the queen and her anticipation of jubilee during Pandemic.

Queen late husband response on getting the award

On winning the award, the Queen husband Prince Philip responded:

‘’ there is nothing like it for morale to be reminded that the years are passing- ever more quickly- and that bits are beginning to drop off the ancient frame.’’

‘’ But it is nice to be remembered at all.’’

The Queen has received many tributes and honors over her 95 years. However, this is the one she refuses to accept. However, her response to the award is appreciated by many. Some belief, it’s a brilliant response from the queen, and it will be remembered.
