Wild Weather Forecast for Christmas: What to Expect in the Lead Up

Christmas is a special time of year for many Australians, and this year looks to be no exception. The final week of 2022 is expected to bring warmer temperatures and sunshine across much of the country, with a possible heatwave in the southern states.

In the week ahead, most of the southern states are expected to receive significant rainfall. This could bring drenching rains and cooler temperatures, giving most Australians the perfect opportunity to curl up inside and watch some Christmas movies. As the weekend approaches, though, the wet weather is forecast to ease, making way for warmer days and plenty of sunshine.

With the warmer temperatures and sunshine, many Australians will be able to enjoy outdoor activities during the festive season. From beach trips to bike rides and barbecues, there will be plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the weather.

NSW will experience a cooler start to the week, with temperatures staying in the low to mid 20s. Thunderstorms will approach on Thursday and continue to move northward through the state until Friday evening.

In South Australia, Monday will bring showers and storms, but they will move eastward by Tuesday afternoon. Despite the storms, Adelaide will reach a high of 34C and remain warm until Wednesday.

For most of the week leading up to Christmas in Queensland, it will be sunny with temperatures in the high 20s. However, the far south of the Sunshine State will begin to experience stormy conditions by Christmas Eve morning.

For Tasmania, temperatures this week will remain lower than most other states, with the highest temperature in Hobart not expected to exceed 25 degrees Celsius. Christmas Day is predicted to be partially cloudy with a chance of rain.

The ACT will begin the week with sunny skies, but temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-to-low twenties until Friday. Showers are anticipated to come to the state by the end of the week.

Beginning Wednesday evening, showers are expected to arrive in Victoria and remain until Saturday morning. There is a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday in Melbourne, yet temperatures are likely to stay at a balmy 27C.

For the week leading up to Christmas in the western part of the nation, temperatures are predicted to remain in the mid-30s and the sun is expected to shine brightly in Perth, resulting in a stunning week of clear blue skies.
