Sydney Local Health District is in search of a new chief information officer (CIO) and director of digital health innovation following the departure of Richard Taggart earlier this year. Taggart has taken up the position of national director of information technology and digital transformation at Calvary Health Care.
Although the title may be different, Taggart’s new role at Calvary entails similar responsibilities to his previous position as head of digital, which was previously held by David Stupple for 19 years before he joined Ramsay Health Care in February.
As Sydney Local Health District looks for a permanent replacement, Alexandra Wagstaff, the director of clinical information systems, is serving as the acting CIO and director of digital health innovation.
The newly appointed individual will be responsible for spearheading significant changes, such as the digitization of the agency’s corporate and clinical health records. This will involve collaborating with eHealth on the implementation of a “single electronic health record strategy,” a national initiative aimed at consolidating NSW’s core clinical and laboratory information management systems into a unified digital patient record.
Taggart served as the CIO of Sydney Local Health District for four years. Prior to that, he held the position of Apple’s healthcare lead for Australia and New Zealand. In addition, he currently chairs the Australian Stroke and Heart Research Accelerator, a medical research fund initiative.
Sydney Local Health District is actively seeking a qualified individual to fill the crucial roles of CIO and director of digital health innovation. The successful candidate will drive transformative digital initiatives, ensuring the efficient management of health records and contributing to the advancement of healthcare services in the district.
