Sydney exit lockdown: Doctors’ group urges continued Caution

On Monday, Australia gears up to ‘live with’ COVID after being in lockdown for almost 106 days. Sydney is Australia’s biggest city where fully vaccinated people are allowed once again to go out.

People were in lockdown for almost 4 months and now they are fully vaccinated, they can go to restaurants, shops, and cafes.

Cafes and restaurants open their doors for vaccinated people to enjoy their life after remaining indoor for a longer period.

However, some of the restrictions remain in practice, including limits to international border closure and huge gatherings.

Meanwhile, doctors urged us to remain cautious and be optimistic. The main concern of the doctors is that reopening will lead to a surge in cases. It is also urge to use the mask for safety purposes.

The doctor’s body said, ‘’ The AMA supports gradual opening up of the economy and the loosening of restrictions, but it is critical to observe the impact of each step on transmission and case numbers,’’

‘’otherwise, New South Wales may still see hospitals become completely overwhelmed despite high vaccination rates.’’

Western Australia and Queensland are virus Free states and have much lower vaccination rates. They are watching what happens as the biggest city Sydney reopens on Monday.

Many Australians welcome this new move and felt relaxed about opening businesses. Despite the freezing weather, people are excited to be outside.

Australia is among the countries that have successfully control Covid -19, through strict border movement, mandatory quarantine, and lockdown.

Delta-Variant Spread quickly

Meanwhile, the Delta outbreak has spread quickly to the neighboring state of Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. Also, the delay of vaccines led to the strict lockdown.

Mary-Louise McLaws, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of South Wales said in a talk with CNN, ‘’ I was always of the belief that we could have eliminated the non-Delta Covid… but I concede lockdowns with Delta are often going to be an unwinnable contest.

As the cases increases, it was clear that keeping people in lockdown wasn’t the solution for both economic and health reasons.  And it was realize that the only solution is to vaccinate the whole country.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that Australians play their role in the system.

‘’ where there are no cases, or whether there are 500 cases, or indeed 1,500 cases a day. The best thing you can do to support nurses and all those working in a hospital is to get vaccinated.
