Services Australia sets switchover date for myGov

Services Australia is preparing to decommission legacy platforms and permanently switch to the myGov Beta platform. The Legacy platform is an older system that is no longer widespread. For online government services, service Australia is now moving towards myGov Beta platform.

From September 5, myGov Beta platform will replace the Legacy platform. Beta platform as new functionality is to be part of the updated myGov. Services Australia general manager Hank Jongen said.“myGov will be upgraded from September 5, when the updated myGov Beta platform replaces the legacy site at my.gov.au.

He further added, “We’re encouraging people to start exploring the updated platform now. So they get to know the new layout before it changes.”

Legacy Platform has been in place since 2013

The legacy platform has been in place since 2013. In 2007, the platform upgrades took place. Meanwhile, it will be decommissioned in the following months. Hank Jongen said, “It is almost 10 years old and there are limitations to what it can do,”

He said, adding that it had served Australia well, particularly during Covid-19 after initially crashing under the weight of users.“The updated platform will provide greater flexibility to adapt and grow with new features in the future and provide a more personalized experience.”

Service Australia has been testing the new platform Beta with users. newly-minted government services minister Bill Shorten said that the new myGove nudged people to consider health screening.  He added.

“Imagine with aged-base life events – throughout life, but particularly after 40, we could nudge people to engage in preventative screening and treatments, ” Jongen said Services Australia is “working through potential features to help tailor the myGov experience. Make it more relevant to people’s individual needs”.

He further adds, “These will undergo comprehensive assessments and user testing before being part of the upgraded myGov platform. As we continue to make improvements and more people interact with the content and services. We’ll be able to provide them with more tailored suggestions.”
