Tesla has started dispatching over-the-air software updates for the highly awaited beta version 9 for full-self driving. It is a highly advanced driver support system that had been in the making for quite some time now.
As promised by Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, Elon Musk, the new software update (2021.4.18.12) began loading past midnight on Friday.
What Is The Update About?
The many thousands of Tesla owners who have access to the FSD option were able to get this feature that enables drivers to use more Autopilot driver-friendly features on local roads, non-highways that are newly released.
Musk has guaranteed software v9 for a while now.
Released After A Long Waiting Period
In 2018, Musk went on to say that the “long-awaited” FSD program would begin to be released in August.
He promised the same thing again in 2019, announcing that “a year from now” there will be “more than a million fully self-driving cars, software, and everything.”
Earlier this month, he said “the beta of FSD 9 will be released soon.” To say that Tesla fans have been waiting for this eagerly review would not do justice to their 2 year long wait.
Musk has gone on twitter to post the following tweet: “Beta 9 addresses most known issues, but there will be unknown issues, so please be paranoid.” He added, “Safety is always top priority at Tesla.”

Release notes that come with this new Full self-driving update also warn the beta users that “it may do the wrong thing at the worst time” and to avoid complacence. They also mention improvements to the cabin camera’s driver monitoring to check for attentiveness, along with updated, larger visualizations on the in-car display (as shown above).
What Are The Drawbacks Of Driver Assist Systems?
Since Tesla launched Autopilot in 2015, there have been at least 11 deaths in nine US accidents involving the auto-pilot or the driver-assistance program. Worldwide, there have been at least nine deaths in seven additional accidents.
The government of the United States has made its stance clear on this and said that it requires car companies to report accidents involving advanced driver assist systems or auto-pilots within a day of the incident.
It has been a major turning point in the automation of these systems.
