Instead of having employees wait in line at a cash register, Officeworks has implemented a mobile payment solution that enables team members to accept payments from clients on the store floor.
The goal, according to Andy Barker, head of team member experience apps, is to enable team members to “provide a speedy and individualised shopping experience” to customers at its 167 stores.
Team members will be able to “give professional assistance” to customers regarding product selections and allow them to make an immediate purchase.
The payment solution is managed by Quest Payment System’s Airpay TAP on Zebra Technologies’ TC52x mobile computers.
Major credit cards and EFTPOS payments are accepted by the computers’ mobile POS terminals.
With improved scanning and stock take accuracy, according to Barker, the deployment of the Zebra devices has led to additional and “substantial efficiency and productivity advantages.”
He added that the robust casings utilised by Zebra devices resulted in decreased repair costs for Officeworks.
Previously, he claimed, in-store staff used “consumer grade equipment” that were nearing the end of their useful lives.
The company wanted devices that were robust, had a scanner so team members could rapidly scan tickets, and had NFC capability, giving it the flexibility to run payments anywhere in the store.
