New Nyxi Wizard Wireless Joy-Pad: A Unique GameCube-Inspired Controller for the Nintendo Switch

The gaming industry is rapidly evolving and manufacturers are always looking for ways to give gamers the most immersive experience possible. Nyxi is a gaming accessory manufacturer that recently announced a new controller specifically made for the Nintendo Switch. It’s called the Nyxi Wizard Wireless Joy-pad and it takes design influences from Nintendo’s iconic GameCube controller.

The Nyxi Wizard Wireless Joy-pad retains the unique face button layout and offset analog sticks of the GameCube controller.

The Wizard can be slid into the Switch’s Joy-Con rails and used for handheld mode, as well as acting as a single controller in docked or tabletop modes. It offers more than a typical GameCube controller with its turbo buttons that can be assigned to replicate any other button and programmable back buttons like those found on high-end gaming controllers.

Nyxi claims that the most appealing feature of the Wizard controllers is their Hall effect analog sticks, which are powered by magnets instead of physical potentiometers, meaning they won’t suffer from “drift” a problem encountered in Nintendo’s Joy-Con controllers, as the potentiometers wear down over time.

According to a report released late last year, a UK consumer rights group found a “design flaw” in the Nintendo Switch controllers, specifically in the Joy-Cons which come bundled with the console. The group discovered that the analog sticks were prone to wear down over time, leading to unwanted inputs even when a player wasn’t pressing them.

The company offering free shipping when ordering from its website, Nyxi’s Wizard controller is priced at $69 USD, or roughly $100 AUD, and is said to be entirely immune to analog stick drift.
