Mazda Australia Issues Recall for Popular Models following Deadly Wiring Harness Defect

Mazda Australia has issued a recall on two of their popular models amid fears a defective wire could cause serious injury or death. On Monday, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, issued the recall for the Mazda 3 (BM, BN) and the CX-3 (DK) due to the unintended issues with the rear-view camera wiring harness.

The recall affects approximately 200,000 cars. The issue is said to be a result of a manufacturing defect in the wiring harness of the rear-view camera system, causing the camera to become detached from its housing. If the camera comes off, it could cause major damages to the car, and more importantly, injury or death to any occupants or anyone around the vehicle.

The department mentioned the harness might be damaged, which could lead to a warped or flickering rear-view image.

Mazda have identified a potential hazard with all Mazda 3 and CX-3 models made between 2013 and 2020. If left unaddressed, the possibly distorted image could potentially increase the risk of an accident, resulting in serious injury or even death to people behind the vehicle.

Therefore, Mazda will be sending out letters to those affected, asking them to make an appointment at their preferred Mazda authorised dealership in order to have the issue resolved without charge.
