With the introduction of Heritage Bank’s first online international transfer service, users can now send money abroad via the banking app.
Prior to the opening, only a branch could process international payments, which may take up to 48 hours.
Customers of Heritage Bank can now use the bank’s mobile app or internet banking to access the new cross-border payments feature.
International transfers made through the customer-owned bank connect to Convera, formerly Western Union Business Solutions, through an integrated API solution (WUBS).
Prior to the launch of the new service, a Heritage spokeswoman told iTnews that “clients had to go into a bank to request a telegraphic transfer.”
“With the proliferation of online purchases now taking place across worldwide market places,” Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock stated in an announcement, “our new international payments service provides a seamless capability for our members.”
The additional features, according to Lock, “will be a significant improvement in terms of simplicity and convenience for our users and enable them to make payments via a wide range of currencies.”
The bank has improved its capacity to offer online services to its members in recent years as part of its digital transformation.
On an iTnews podcast earlier this month, Lock suggested that Heritage Bank could be able to “leapfrog” a planned improvement to its digital transformation strategy.
