Microsoft has unveiled a “unified” artificial intelligence (AI) tool called Copilot, enhancing its Windows 11 platform. This AI will work across Microsoft’s web and productivity applications, including Bing, the Edge browser, and the Microsoft 365 software suite. The updated AI software will launch alongside Windows 11’s latest changes on September 26. It will be available in Microsoft 365 Copilot starting November 1.
Copilot’s Features and Pricing
Microsoft introduced 365 Copilot in preview earlier this year. The company announced that the features will cost customers $30 per user per month at list prices, in addition to their existing subscriptions.
Microsoft also revealed that its Bing search engine will incorporate OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, an image-generating AI, expanding its AI capabilities in search.
Microsoft has been actively integrating generative AI, which includes text, image, and sound generation capabilities, across a wide range of its products and services. This AI-focused strategy is expected to intensify competition with tech giants like Alphabet and Apple.
New Surface Devices
In addition to the AI announcement, Microsoft introduced three new laptops: the Surface Laptop Go 3, Surface Laptop Studio 2, and Surface Go 4 for Business. They also unveiled the Surface Hub 3, an updated version of its interactive whiteboard.
These product launches come shortly after the departure of Microsoft’s long-time product chief, Panos Panay, and the appointment of Yusuf Mehdi to oversee the Surface and Windows businesses.
