Volvo Announces Major Change in Australia

Volvo Cars will only sell electric cars in Australia from 2026, the Swedish car maker has announced.

The move is part of Volvo’s global commitment to electrification, which will see the company’s entire range of cars and SUVs transition to electric power by 2030.

“This is a major step towards our vision of a climate-neutral future,” said Volvo Australia managing director Stephen Connor

“By making this commitment we are sending a clear signal that electrification is the way forward.”

Volvo has announced that it will not be releasing any new vehicles powered by petrol or diesel, phasing out its existing model line-up over the next few years as it introduces a new EV every 12 months.

Volvo’s decision to switch to an all-electric lineup in Australia is in line with its goal of becoming a leader in the global shift to sustainable mobility.

“We have already seen strong customer demand for our electrified cars and we believe that this is the right time to make the switch,” said Connor.

“This is a major investment in the future of our company and our planet, and we are confident that Australian customers will embrace our electrified cars.”

Volvo’s all-electric cars will be available in Australia from 2026 onwards. In the meantime, the company will continue to sell its existing range of hybrid and petrol-powered cars.
