As the Zip Co company’s new global chief technology officer, Ahu Chhapgar will drive the company’s digital innovation.
According to the buy now, pay later (BNPL) company, Chhapgar will develop Zip Co’s engineering and technological skills and provide better consumer and merchant experiences. In December, he will begin working at Zip Co’s New York office, assisting the international product, technology, and engineering teams.
Zip Co has grown from two to thirteen markets in 18 months, riding the BNPL wave. As the BNPL sector “changes the world of payments,” Chhapgar stated, Zip Co is “doing fascinating work to challenge the old financial services paradigm.” In a statement, founder and CEO Larry Diamond said Chhapgar joins the team with an “excellent track record in payments engineering,” which will be critical as the firm grows.
“Zip Co is all about output velocity and delivering value into the hands of customers and merchants faster than our competitors,” Diamond explained. “Ahu will serve as a guidepost for our engineering and technology teams as we aspire to be the first payment option everywhere, every day.” “Zip Co’s expansion need not just revolutionary engineering leadership, but also a highly effective people leader capable of attracting and developing world-class talent, and Ahu is that person.”
Chhapgar comes to Zip Co from Citibank, where he spent three and a half years as managing director of global head of payments and receivable technology. He has also worked at PayPal, DexYP, Covansys, and Hewlett Packard in the past.
