Woolworths Group, a major supermarket chain, has acquired the Australian-owned grocery delivery service Milkrun, which recently ceased operations. The acquisition will see Milkrun integrated into Woolworths’ existing grocery delivery service, Metro60, originally designed to deliver groceries in under 60 minutes in select areas.

Woolworths has unveiled a rebranded website, with the Metro60 branding replaced by “Milkrun now powered by Metro,” while maintaining the app’s current functionality. Customers who are members of the Everyday Rewards program will continue to earn points for their purchases under the refreshed service.

Milkrun powered by Metro will continue to fulfill orders using the existing Metro60 model, which leverages third-party couriers and achieves an average delivery time of 33 minutes. The service is available in over 500 suburbs across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and the Gold Coast.

Milkrun expressed its excitement about the news on its Instagram page, stating that it is “back in the game” and that “the cat is well and truly out of the bag.”

This development comes shortly after Woolworths’ competitor, Coles Group, extended its partnership with Uber to offer similar services from an additional 500 stores in the coming months. Woolworths will likewise fulfill Milkrun orders from its Metro stores.

Dany Milham, the founder of Milkrun, expressed satisfaction in seeing the brand continue under Woolworths’ ownership, noting that Milkrun had pioneered rapid grocery delivery in Australia.
