Westpac’s consumer payments chief is moving to PayPal

Kevin Correll, Westpac’s head of consumer payments, has gone to join PayPal in the United States.

Correll has been named head of enterprise platform growth at PayPal, where he will oversee a payments team responsible for ensuring that “payout capabilities are matched to merchant demands across all components of the payment lifecycle.”

Correll revealed the departure last week on LinkedIn, explaining that he had completed a term of gardening leave from Westpac.

He stated that the chance at PayPal “meant leaving Australia considerably sooner than expected,” but that it was “the type of opportunity that made an overseas relocation during a pandemic worth it – which is about the best compliment I can offer, now that I think about it.”

Swendri Weeraratne, the head of payments, loyalty, and customer success at Westpac’s consumer finance group, has taken over Correll’s responsibilities since his departure.

Weeraratne reports to Steven Rubenstein, the managing director of consumer finance.

Prior to joining Westpac, Correll worked for JP Morgan Chase for six years, three of which he spent building products and services as the head of product management for Asia Pacific merchant services.

He spent three more years in the payments arena at Amazon, and he has also worked with fintechs Rêv Worldwide and PerkStreet Financial, as well as the US financial organisation Capital One Financial.
