A technology rollout by Westpac is intended to enable small businesses to accept payments from clients using Android mobile devices.
With the new service, retailers will be able to take payments by touching cards or another Android device on Android smartphones that have been transformed into payment terminals.
Small businesses can download a point-of-sale app to start accepting contactless payments thanks to Westpac’s Tap on Phone feature.
Businesses that have Android 9.0 software or higher will be able to accept payments using cards, mobile wallets, and wearables using the near field communication (NFC) reader on their phone or tablet.
The bank is “constantly searching for ways to make it fast, flexible, and secure” for businesses to get paid, according to Chris de Bruin, chief executive of Westpac’s consumer and commercial banking division.
Westpac’s Tap on Phone technology, which enables their compatible Android phone or tablet to morph into a payment device, is a game-changer for business owners who seek a more lightweight and portable alternative to traditional merchant gear, according to de Bruin.
De Bruin noted that the new solution “makes it easier and faster to do business” and that mobile is “already the number one choice for making payments.”
Businesses in Australia are looking for more easy and connected payment options, therefore there is tremendous potential for uptake, according to de Bruin.
