Victorian Greens have pledged to invest an extra $1.46 billion over the next five years into Victoria’s public schools.
The party says the extra funding will be used to increase teacher salaries, reduce class sizes and improve school infrastructure.
Greens education spokesperson Sam Hibbins said the plan would provide a much-needed boost to the state’s education system.
“Victoria’s education system is in desperate need of an injection of resources,” he said.
“This plan would go a long way towards addressing the many deficiencies in our system, and would ensure that every child in Victoria has access to a quality education.”
Premier Daniel Andrews pledged on Monday morning to invest a further $1.6bn in upgrades for Victorian schools, kindergartens and sporting facilities if re-elected next month.
$25m of these funds would be put towards planning for more than two dozen new schools across Melbourne.
“This is about ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to receive a quality education,” he said.
