TikTok, the popular video streaming app, is taking a step beyond videos and photos by introducing text-only posts. This move positions TikTok as a competitor to Elon Musk’s rebranded Twitter platform, X.
According to the Chinese-owned app, the addition of text-only posts offers users “another way to express themselves.” TikTok’s new feature allows users to customize their text posts with sound, location, or Duets, which are video reactions to other users’ posts.
In addition to this update, TikTok recently entered the music streaming market by launching TikTok Music, a service that rivals platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. The music streaming service was initially rolled out in Brazil and Indonesia, and now it’s in beta testing in Singapore, Mexico, and Australia.
TikTok is not the only platform embracing text-based posts. Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, as well as Elon Musk’s X on Twitter, also support this feature. As social media platforms continuously evolve and compete for users’ attention, offering diverse ways to share content has become a top priority.
Meanwhile, Twitter recently underwent a rebranding effort, replacing its iconic blue bird logo with a black and white X. Additionally, the term “tweets” will be changed to “x’s,” according to Musk’s announcement.
As TikTok expands its features and services, it will undoubtedly intensify the competition among tech giants in the social media and content-sharing space. Users can now enjoy more ways to express themselves creatively on the platform with text posts, videos, and photos, making TikTok a dynamic and interactive space for its growing community of users.
