A woman from Western Sydney has been charged by police for allegedly sending over 32,000 emails to the office of a federal MP within 24 hours, causing network overload and impairing IT systems.
The email bombing campaign made it impossible for constituents to email the MP, and the woman used multiple domains to continue the disruption and harassment, according to police.
Email bombing is a form of denial-of-service attack that involves sending a large volume of emails in a short period of time. The woman, aged 34 and from Werrington, has been charged with one count of unauthorised impairment of electronic communication and may face further charges.
She was granted bail with strict conditions and is set to reappear in court on April 11. Investigations are ongoing.
