The Lapsus$ attacks: companies will need a proactive approach 

Lapsus$ is a hacker group that is making headlines after targeting high profile tech companies. The motivation behind the hacking includes both money and fame. As they have been leaking much of the data. In one of the incidents, the hackers asked a crypto mining company to make graphic cards more efficient.

The victim list includes Okta, Microsoft, Samsung, NVIDIA and a few others. Recently a 16 years old student from Oxford has been accuse among the leaders of Lapsus$. 

Multi-millionaire Cybercriminal from Oxford 

The teen from Oxford has earned a $14m Fortune from hacking. Meanwhile, the city police of London have arrested a few teenagers in relation to the groups. Though, police does notif he is among them.

According to BBC reports, his parents show concerns for their son. They also revealed to the BBC that they tried to keep him away from the computer. 

Despite Lapsus$ as a new hacking crime gang, it has become one of the most talked about. City of London police said, “Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with an investigation into a hacking group. They have all been released under investigation. Our inquiries remain ongoing.” 

Also, the boy’s father said that he was good at computers but his son never talked about hacking. His father thinks he is playing games. 

Proactive approach

Lapsus$ is new therefore, not much is in the game for long. However, companies must be careful in securing their data from theft. Cyber security company Digital shadows, Chris Morgan says, ” Lapsus$ has risen in prominence in recent months, ” after targeting several enterprise technology companies, breaching significant amounts of data and posting on their dedicated telegram data leaked channel.” 

Mr. Morgan added, ” Little is known of the origin of the group, however, given that Laspsus$’s initial activity was directed towards several organizations in Brazil, some researchers have speculated that the group is based in South America.” 

The hackers attack companies and exploit them and it’s a big challenges like this must be handle carefully.
