After Mardi Paterson left, Swinburne University is looking for a new CISO to develop and carry out a cyber security plan.
After almost three years in the position, Paterson left in December of last year. Since then, he has been named executive partner of CISO advice at research firm Gartner.
“Due to recent turnover, the university is conducting an extensive search to name a permanent CISO, “According to a university official, iTnews.
“An interim CISO arrangement is in place while the search is being conducted to provide smooth continuity for Swinburne’s information security.
The CISO will contribute to a “substantial upgrade” in internal IT competence “in support of the university’s ambitious Horizon 2025 vision,” according to the university’s job posting.
The ASD Essential Eight and the NIST cyber security framework will serve as the foundation for the cyber security plan, which will also contain a roadmap for execution.
Aside from that, the CISO will offer “necessary training, technical advice, and direction to IT teams and business people as required on the cyber security architecture, technical standards, and risk management framework.”
In addition, according to Swinburne, the position would ensure that the university’s “applications, integrations and data repositories, networks and infrastructure, including both on-premises and cloud solutions, and service providers,” consistently apply IT risk management requirements.
The position will be based at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus and report to Philip Roe, the university’s CIO.
