Tommy Cheung, executive director of technology at Transport for NSW, switched to Sydney Metro at the beginning of the year.
Cheung has been named as the new chief information officer for Sydney Metro, reporting to Fiona Trussell, the chief financial and commercial officer.
Cheung and his group “are responsible for the end-to-end IT technology services for Sydney Metro,” a Transport For NSW representative told iTnews.
Along with “supporting current and upcoming Sydney Metro businesses in operation,” this also includes “providing IT for all four Sydney Metro big projects.”
The position formerly held by Cheung is anticipated to “be filled internally for 12 months,” with his successor reporting to Darren Cavanagh, group chief information officer.
According to the Transport for NSW spokeswoman, “this role is responsible for heading the team in charge of defining IT strategy, driving the enterprise architecture required to accomplish it, and delivering it through technology platforms.”
Prior to joining Sydney Metro, Cheung worked as the executive director of IT strategy and transformation for about 15 months.
Cheung formerly served Sydney Trains for two years in the roles of chief information officer and chief technology officer.
Cheung formerly held a position at the Commonwealth Bank where he was in charge of technology and wealth strategic sourcing.
In addition, he worked for Colonial First State, a former CBA wealth management company, for nearly 19 years in a variety of capacities, most notably as its CIO, where he oversaw modernization initiatives.
