The Tasmanian government’s data breach situation has worsened as it has been revealed that certain data may have been stolen due to the exposure to the GoAnywhere hack.
The government has released a statement stating that the latest investigations indicate that financial data from the Department for Education, Children, and Young People may have been accessed during the global incident, including names, addresses, invoices, and bank account numbers.
However, the government has clarified that there is no confirmation of the theft of such information and that no Tasmanian government IT systems were hacked. The Minister for Science and Technology, Madeleine Ogilvie, has emphasized the importance of making the community aware of the potential data theft to remain vigilant against suspicious financial activity or attempted scams.
Other organizations in Australia, including Crown Resorts and Rio Tinto, were also affected by the GoAnywhere breach, which was caused by the Clop ransomware gang in February.
