With the announcement of four new university partnerships with Australian institutions, Google’s Digital Future Initiative’s research goals for quantum computing are beginning to take form.
Google has focused on quantum computing as a result of the hirings it made earlier this month to advance AI research.
Google has announced in a blog post that it is initiating new partnerships with the University of Sydney and UNSW as well as increasing its quantum computing research investments with Macquarie University and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Teams will investigate how to apply and make use of quantum computing, looking into areas like materials science, sensing, and communications that could alter how we interact with our environment, according to Google.
Google named professor Peter Bartlett and Grace Chung earlier this month to co-lead the Digital Future Initiative, which was first announced in November of last year.
