NSW newest government agency seeks a CIO and CISO

For its two most senior cluster-wide technology leaders, NSW’s newly constituted Department of Enterprise, Investment, and Trade (DEIT) has issued a recruiting call.

DEIT started looking for its first chief information officer and chief information security officer this week. DEIT was founded in April 2022 to position the state as a leading R&D economy.

Senior executive band one and senior executive band two, respectively, are the rankings for the leadership positions.

The CISO post is defined as temporary for the first 12 months, with only the CIO function being continuous.

The CIO will also represent the department in IT-related forums, committees, and cross-government projects, working in concert with other senior officials to create “customer-focused solutions”.

The CISO will “oversee the delivery of information security services” and “lead the executive of the department’s cyber security strategy” in the meantime.

Both leaders must be energetic, driven, and have “significant expertise in directing large enterprise-wide programmes,” according to the agency.

In December 2021, the NSW government initially announced plans to establish DEPI along with the appointment of Alister Henskens as the new Minister for Science, Innovation, and Technology.

One of the first planned actions of the new department is to build on the government’s action plan to speed R&D releases.
