Sportswear Company Victim Of Cyber Attack; Hackers Send Fake Marketing Emails To Customers

The sale of football team shirts and accessories were increasing dramatically for this company but then struck a disaster!

A company that was selling retro style sports shirt has apologized to the customers after a cyber security attack exposed their details.

What Happened?

Classic Football Shirts said customer details were leaked and hacked into through one of its third party system.

Some customers complained about receiving emails that offered them refunds and cashback for their previous orders.

The firm now requests all its customers not to follow the link when they receive a refund email because it’s a marketing gimmick designed to hack into their systems.

Classic Football Shirts said they were aware of the hacker emails at 20:30 on Thursday night – half an hour after they were sent.

Hacker Emails

The firm says that password and payment details were not compromised in the cyber attack.

But on Twitter, the company urged customers to “be aware” and contact their bank to cancel their cards in case they have provided their card details on the refund email.

The clothing firm said payment details were “never kept in its system” and apologized for the “disruption caused”.

But many customers have expressed concern that fraudsters have been able to obtain their names, addresses, email addresses and order history breaching their right to privacy.

Customer Concerns

Some customers commented that they knew it was an email to steal sensitive information after seeing added “s” in the email address: @ classicsfootballshirts.co.uk

Some, after placing an order, noticed that the return email was from order@classicsfootballshirts.co.uk rather than classicfootballshirts.co.uk.

Customers also commented that the company was “unprofessional” and “concerned” that their information was not properly protected.

The Manchester-based firm was started in 2006 by two full-time students. Its website claims to have the largest collection of retro styled football team shirts in the world, with a production range of 30,000 items each and more than 500,000 quantities available in stock at any point ofp time.
