Here we sit down with Sheridan, to know a bit more about her journey as an entrepreneur.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Sheridan: From my earliest memories, I’ve identified as an entrepreneur. I’ve dabbled in various ventures, from selling hats, engaging in commercial real estate, and pursuing diverse endeavours like teaching yoga and ayurveda, and relationship and hair loss coaching.

Business seemed to be a natural and adept part of my life.

However, as life unfolded, I faced significant challenges. Losing every strand of hair on my body and experiencing the heartbreaking loss of my ex to suicide just three weeks after our breakup thrust me into a debilitating pit of Complex PTSD.

The trauma left me numb to the concept of ‘business,’ and I found myself merely ‘falling into it.’

Despite being an entrepreneur at heart, I realized the need to rediscover a different, more meaningful connection with the essence of what had always come naturally to me.

It was time to explore a new approach and rekindle my passion for something I had been naturally good at for so long.

Q. How did you get started?

Sheridan: I was forced to use trauma-healing to sustainably build my business. Equipped with my certifications in Trauma and Yoga Therapy, I learned to read my postural shifts, breath, sensations and emotions as a sacred guidebook to my business success. I uncovered how:

Micro shifts in breathing can heal my fear of rejection, allowing me to feel empowered on sales calls and signing clients without pressure tactics.

Small changes in awareness can make me energetic and creative, giving me the ability to record podcasts, share social media content and serve my clients all in a day’s work.

Twisting, stretching and moving can uncover deep intuitive knowledge that could never once be compared to ‘expert advice’ from the online business coaches I once had.

My body showed me the way. I set to work, using my embodiment tools, combined with an informed business strategy and experience in finance, to stabilise my income with ease.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Sheridan: The biggest challenge was less in the startup and more in the sustainability of what the online personal development industry was deeming as the “right” way to be an entrepreneur. Trying to follow this arbitrary “right” way almost led me to quit.

I was exhausted. I was trying to follow everyone else’s advice – after all, other coaches seemed to know what they were doing. I felt paralysed with fear of rejection when writing content, my voice would shake as I looked for the perfect way to articulate my offers value and if I did manage to book a sales call, heaviness would fill my chest and my mind would get foggy as I’d hear them speak.

So I used a breath practice I’d learned from Somatic Trauma Therapy training. It made me realise—If my body has been the answer to my struggles so far… What if it was now, too? And indeed, my body showed me the way.

Q. What is the most memorable thing you’ve done since you started your business?

Sheridan: Since starting my business, the most memorable thing I have done is to create a one-of-a-kind framework for entrepreneurs to build businesses informed by the needs, desires and limitations of their bodies, and their nervous system and help them increase income even when traditional methods haven’t worked.

The Body-Based Business system pulls on 75% nervous system regulation and trauma healing and 25% business strategy to increase income, and decrease anxiety.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Sheridan: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk is an essential starting point for understanding how your body’s past experiences affect your current understanding and experience in the world.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools or resources and what do you love about them?

Sheridan: I love Insight Timer for free meditations that can connect and ground you before, during and after your work day.

My Nervous System PDF for nervous system regulation tools you can use without much time, space or privacy https://pages.sheridanruth.com/nervoussystem.

Asana keeps everything organised and my team working seamlessly so that your nervous system can feel supported, safe and grounded, allowing you to focus your energy when you’re working, and truly rest in your time off.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Sheridan: I would like to help more individuals become Embodied Entrepreneurs to integrate the Body Based Business methodology to become more resilient, creative, compassionate, and intuitive individuals working for their dreams and visions without sacrificing their mental health, values or time with family.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Sheridan: Your body wasn’t made for someone else’s strategy, and their strategy wasn’t made for your body – create your own way forward.
