SA gov will implement a platform for patient reported measures

A state-wide programme to enable patients to report on their experiences and health results has been launched by a collaboration between two South Australian state healthcare organisations and the digital health startup The Clinician.

The platform’s capabilities will be used by the Department for Health and Wellbeing (SA Health) and the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH) of South Australia to implement the patient reported measures (PRM) initiative.

The Clinician’s platform will be used by the PRM programme to gather data and research reported measurements throughout South Australia.

The rollout will take place over several phases at a few SA Health services, with the initial stages beginning in mid-2023 and the succeeding implementations taking place in 2024 and 2025.

By mid-2025, it’s anticipated that the digital solution will have registered roughly 1 million patients and will have reached its target of 5000 clinical users.

In addition to supporting professional services in delivering better treatment and assisting patients in making informed decisions, the programme is expected to give patients the ability to report on significant health outcomes and experiences through questionnaires.

The introduction of “real time visibility of patient reported measures” has been shown to improve patient and clinician partnerships through improved decision making and deliver healthcare that is motivated by patient values, according to Megan Scott, director of the CEIH patient reported measures programme.

Following an open tendering procedure overseen by the CEIH, the digital platform was chosen.

In more than 245 locations across 15 NSW Health districts, specialised health networks, and two primary care locations, eHealth NSW has deployed its own patient reported measures platform.
