A major national recall of a popular product has been issued, due to a potential danger to children that was identified by Product Safety Australia. The recall notice was issued on Friday for Energizer A76 miniature 1.5V Alkaline/Watch Button Batteries that were sold in packs of four at Woolworths, Bunnings, and BIG W.
The notice stated the product failed to meet mandatory information standards, and posed risks to children under the age of five who may swallow the compact but powerful batteries. If consumed the battery can lodge in the throat and burn and corrode tissue, resulting in significant health issues.
The packaging of the product had a sticker covering the warning symbol that advises consumers to keep the batteries out of children’s reach, rendering the warning not visible.
Energizer batteries were available for purchase from a wide range of national stores, such as IGA, Bunnings, Harvey Norman, Woolworths, JB HI-FI, Officeworks, Mitre 10, Big W, Australian Pharmaceutical, Symbion, Amazon, AWM Electrical, Blackwoods, Brave Logistics, CETNAJ-MML, Complete Office Supplies, D & W Electrical, Haymans Electrical, John R Turk, MM Electrical Merchandising, Rexel Holdings, Supercheap Auto, and TLE Electrical.
The products, identified by their barcode 8888021306835, were sold both in-store and online from May 5 to July 12, 2022.
