Andy Weir will serve as the new bank’s chief information officer that results from the union of Heritage Bank and People’s Choice Credit Union.
Weir has been serving as CIO of People’s Choice Credit Union for the past six months. In March 2023, he will take over as both organisations’ technology leader.
According to Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock, the two organisations are joining forces to form “a new national mutual that operates as a counterbalance to the big national banks” and become the “eighth largest Australian domestic bank.”
Before switching to a single new brand in 2024, it is anticipated that the amalgamated organisation will continue to run the People’s Choice and Heritage brands for a while.
Weir “developed himself as an extraordinary leader and a strong advocate for our ideals as a member-owned organisation,” People’s Choice chief executive Steve Laidlaw said.
“He stood out as the best candidate during a protracted hiring process to lead us through our next, crucial stage, which entails integrating our two IT teams and systems, according to Laidlaw.
Weir stated that he was “thrilled” to assume the position “at such a momentous time.
Weir stated that the merger with Heritage would result in the creation of a substantial new, major national financial services organisation that would offer a real alternative to the major banks.
“As we work to provide cutting-edge digital experiences for our members, technology will be essential to the effective delivery of the vision for our new organisation.
Both organisations already have several key system decisions and technological foundations in common.
For the organisation and its members, the merger “will be a great IT marriage,” according to Lock.
He stated that in order for members to continue banking smoothly, a “IT bridge” will be put in place between the systems of the two organisations.
