Optus is appointing International professional firm Deloitte to perform a ‘’forensic assessment’’ of the recent cyberattacks. Moreover, the firm will perform and check its security system, control and processes.
Kelly Bayer Rosmarin, Optus’s Chief executive officer recommended the external review. Singtel Board supports the review unanimously. Bayer Rosmarin said that the review ‘’would play a crucial role in responding to the incident for Optus, as it works to support customers.’’
Also, She adds, ‘’This review will help ensure we understand how it occurred and how we can prevent it from occurring again. It will help inform the response to the incident for Optus.’’ Bayer Rosmarin believes this will help both the public and private sectors where sensitive data is kept and cyber attack risk is always there.
Singtel is closely monitoring the situation
Firm Singtel is closely monitoring the situation with the Management. Singtel said in an SGX filing (PDF) that it is ‘’continuing to evaluate the potential financial implications arising from” the data breach.’’The firm also adds that any kind of material development will be disclosed to the market timely. It would defend any class action lawsuit. If any is to file with the courts.
Meanwhile, Kelly Bayer felt sorry for what happened and showed concern. She said, “We’re deeply sorry that this has happened and we recognise the significant concern it has caused many people. While our overwhelming focus remains on protecting our customers and minimizing the harm that might come from the theft of their information, we are determined to find out what went wrong.”
Moreover, Bayer Rosmarin said that Optus is awaiting guidance on what action people should take. She added that we were disappointed that even one customer’s information could be assessed. We are deeply sorry that this could occur.
