OpenAI’s ChatGPT will Expands Abilities, Now ‘Seeing,’ ‘Hearing,’ and ‘Speaking

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is receiving a significant update that will enable it to have voice conversations with users and interact using images, bringing it closer to widely-used AI assistants like Apple’s Siri.

The voice feature has the potential for various creative and accessibility-focused applications. This update allows ChatGPT to perform tasks such as narrating bedtime stories, answering questions at the dinner table, and reading aloud text input from users. It can also be employed for translating content for podcasters on platforms like Spotify.

Additionally, the update introduces image support, allowing users to take pictures of objects or scenes and ask ChatGPT for assistance, such as troubleshooting a technical issue, planning a meal based on the contents of their fridge, or analyzing complex data graphs for work-related tasks.

This expansion of ChatGPT’s capabilities places it in competition with Google Lens, which offers image recognition and information retrieval features.

The new features will be rolled out to subscribers of ChatGPT’s Plus and Enterprise plans over the next two weeks.
