NSW Government Launches $200,000 Uptown Grant Program to Revitalize 21 Australia Suburbs

Australia is set for a major transformation thanks to a $200,000 cash injection from the NSW government. Dubbed the Uptown Grant Program, this program will provide a boost to 21 suburbs across eight local government areas in a bid to attract more domestic and international tourists to the CBD and surrounding area.

John Graham, NSW Music and Night-time Economy Minister, revealed that a rebranding process will occur in each suburb that participates in the scheme, potentially leading to the implementation of new names and additional attractions.

“Groups of businesses and creatives in areas across Sydney have presented their desire to construct highly regarded precincts with unique offerings that will be enjoyable for locals and visitors alike, making this an exhilarating chance,” Mr Graham said.

The vision for a more vibrant Blacktown in the West is for it to become The Gathering – a youth, arts, and music precinct – hosting hundreds of events and welcoming numerous artists. Additionally, Harris Park will be rechristened to Little India in honour of its mostly-Indian community. And to further contribute to nearby Brookvale’s upscaled art district (BAD) investment of $198,450 is to be provided.

Darlinghurst, situated closer to the city centre, is set to be given the new title of Rainbow Precinct in recognition of its LGBTQ+ community and the Mardi Gras parade. Not far away, Kings Cross is to be rebranded as KXQ (Kings Cross Quarter) in a bid to revitalize the area and draw both tourists and locals alike to the neighbourhood after dark.

Balmain and Rozelle will form a unified unit following the allotment of $200,000 in funds to help restore their prominence.
