As the days become increasingly colder and the nights become even more frigid, Australia is bracing itself for the coldest June morning in five years.
Lounging on a sunny beach or lingering in the winter sun is a distant reality this year as the cold front moves across the country like an unwelcome guest.
Millions of Australians are set to shiver during June’s icy chill, with temperatures in some areas as low as -5 degrees Celsius.
Just how cold is it going to be? Sky News meteorologist Alison Osborne warned on Monday that the entire nation is in for a dramatic cold front that is expected to last until the end of the month.
On Tuesday, Eastern Australia will experience a second cold front in two days as a rain system passes over the Pacific Ocean, bringing a cold air mass with it.
“Another blast of cold, wet, and windy weather has arrived, marking a large cold snap for many. Oh my, the temperatures are unbelievably low, even for this season… It’s going to be difficult to get out of bed for the rest of the week,” Ms Osborne said.
On Wednesday, parts of Tasmania, Victoria, the ACT and NSW will experience record-breaking low temperatures that plunge far below freezing.
