NSW Digital Secretary Emma Hogan to Depart, Replacement to Be Appointed

Emma Hogan, the Secretary of Digital and of the Department of Customer Service (DCS) in New South Wales (NSW), has announced her decision to leave her role. The NSW government plans to appoint a replacement by the end of November.

Hogan, who joined the NSW public service in May 2018, has held key roles during her tenure. She was initially appointed as the Public Service Commissioner and later became the Secretary of DCS in October 2019. Her leadership has seen significant developments in digital services within the state.

Under Hogan’s leadership, DCS entered into an AWS hosting agreement valued at over $57 million and introduced digital driver’s licenses and digital ID cards for NSW residents. The success of these digital services led to an agreement between the state and federal governments to recognize each other’s digital IDs.

In a LinkedIn post, Hogan stated that she believes in knowing “when it’s the right time to step aside to allow for fresh eyes and renewed energy,” indicating her decision to leave her role.

Jihad Dib, the current Minister for Customer Service in NSW, paid tribute to Hogan, highlighting her significant contributions during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters.

Hogan will continue in her role until November or until a new secretary is appointed, according to the NSW government’s statement.

This announcement underscores the importance of digital leadership and transformation within government departments and signals a change in leadership for digital initiatives in NSW.
