NSW cybercrime statistics show police referrals and outcomes

Less than half of reported cybercrime incidents in New South Wales (NSW) led to police referrals, and most referrals were closed “with no further investigation,” according to an analysis by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research. The analysis is based on three years of data extracted from the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s online reporting system, the ReportCyber Application Platform. The dataset contains 39,494 reports of cybercrime over the three years to June 2022, but is described as incomplete. Most victims of cybercrime in NSW were individuals (89%), male (53%) and over 25 years old (87%), BOCSAR said.
