The NSW government plans to digitise trade licences, with Victor Dominello, minister of government services and digital government, indicating that high-risk work licence renewal procedures are on his radar.
Renewals of more than 63,000 high-risk work permits are currently handled through a time-consuming paper procedure.
Dominello stated in a social media post that in order to renew a high-risk work licence, one must print out and fill out a paper renewal at Australia Post.
For each renewal, the applicant must submit updated paperwork and a new photo.
Dominello claimed that digitising the procedure will provide “a better, faster, and cheaper client experience.”
“Online renewals could cut the typical time needed to renew an application by about 90 minutes, giving clients back 477,000 minutes per month and more than 5.7 million minutes annually.”
Service NSW has maintained a rapid release pace while providing a framework for digitalization all the way to the federal level.
Since declaring his intention to leave politics four months ago, Dominello has introduced a decentralised digital ID pilot, multifactor authentication for the Service NSW app, and a scheme to reduce the collecting of real estate data.
