Microsoft is launching a payment system through Teams that allows businesses to collect payments directly within a Teams meeting with their clients.
The Teams Payments app, supported by PayPal, Stripe, and GoDaddy, will initially be available in North America and Canada. The app is currently in public preview in the Teams Store for Teams Essentials and will be free for Microsoft 365 business users.
According to Microsoft product marketing leader Alberto Martinez Interiano, the app is intended to support “any meeting you host in Teams”. The payment requests can be created within meetings, and customers can make payments using a “credit or debit card, digital wallet, and more.”
While the Teams Payments app works on mobile, the mobile version is limited to one-on-one meetings, and payments can only be made if the meeting is set up on a desktop computer. At launch, PayPal and Stripe are supported, with GoDaddy expected to be added soon.
