On Thursday (Reuters)- Microsoft Corp’s messaging application MS team was down for thousands of customers. The company said that after an hour-long outage that disrupted the application for users, it is under investigation. Washington-based company Redmond identified a disruption, however, did not disclose the number of users affected by the outage. The company said, ‘’ on a recent deployment that contained a broken connection to an internal storage service.’’

MS Teams is widely use for daily operations for businesses. Employees use the service to communicate internally, message each other, organize their workflow and make calls. Disruption causes a lot of trouble and major communication problems for the users.

Action to reroute a portion of traffic

Since, more than 4800 incidents of people reported issues with the Microsoft team on Wednesday, according to Downdetector.com. It tracks outages by collecting status reports from sources including user-submitted errors.

Meanwhile, according to Downdetector, more than 1,457 users are currently affect by the disruption. The firm also showed there were more than 150 incidents of people reporting issues with Microsoft Office 365.

Also, the Microsoft team said, “We’ve taken action to reroute a portion of traffic to provide some relief within the environment,”

They added, “The desktop app may sign in successfully, though all functionalities may be down, and users may see the following message: ‘We ran into a problem. Reconnecting…’,

Although users worldwide reported problems, time zone differences meant most of the impact of the problems was felt in Australia and New Zealand.

Big technology companies have also been hit by outages in the past year

This is not the first time that big companies have face trouble, and hit by outages in the past. Such as the six-hour disruption at Meta Platforms, keeping WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram out of reach for billions of users last October.

Due to the pandemic and work from home, Microsoft teams popularity has soared. Microsoft in its earnings call in January had said that Teams surpassed 270 million monthly active users, as demand for remote business-oriented teleconferencing and messaging tools soared.
