Microsoft announced its plans to introduce OpenAI’s powerful language-producing models to government agencies through its Azure cloud service starting from the US. The company, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, has integrated support for the latest and most advanced large language models (LLMs), including GPT-4 and GPT-3, into Azure Government.
The utilization of LLMs has witnessed a surge following the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, in which Microsoft holds a stake. Businesses of all sizes and types are now racing to leverage these models and develop innovative features.
This marks the first instance of Microsoft bringing GPT technology to Azure Government, the cloud solution provider for US government agencies. It also represents a significant step by a major corporation to make chatbot technology accessible to governmental entities.
Previously, Microsoft had offered this technology to Azure’s commercial cloud users through Azure OpenAI Services, boasting 4,500 customers as of May.
Microsoft highlighted that government clients can customize these language models for specific tasks such as content generation, language-to-code translation, and summarization.
