Travellers in Queensland can soon enjoy direct flights to Malaysia once again. The Malaysia Airlines officially resumes its Brisbane–Kuala Lumpur service from Saturday, November 29, 2025. This long-anticipated return is a major step in reconnecting Brisbane with Malaysia. Additionally, travelers can travel to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe — such as London and Paris.
The airline had suspended flights to Brisbane in March 2023 during a cost-restructuring phase, but the route was never off the radar. Now, Malaysia Airlines is back in action, operating five flights a week between the two cities. The service will see MH135 depart Kuala Lumpur at 8:40 PM, arriving in Brisbane at 6:45 AM the next morning, every day except Mondays and Wednesdays. The return leg, MH134, will leave Brisbane at 8:00 AM and touch down in Kuala Lumpur at 2:10 PM. The airline will operate every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Malaysia Airlines a compelling option for travellers
Tickets are already on sale and are competitively priced. Economy return fares to Kuala Lumpur start from AUD $755, while business class return tickets are available from around AUD $3,400. Those looking to explore further can fly to Paris for as low as $1,449 or head to London from $1,639 in economy class. These fares make Malaysia Airlines a compelling option for travellers heading to Europe via Southeast Asia.
The Brisbane route will be served by the airline’s Airbus A330-200 — a widebody aircraft offering 27 lie-flat business class seats and 263 economy seats. Although these are not the airline’s newer A330neo models currently flying to Melbourne and soon Sydney, the A330-200 business class remains a solid option for both day and overnight flights. The seating layout is particularly flexible, catering to solo flyers with “throne” seats that offer additional privacy and space, while also accommodating couples and business travellers needing room to work.
Passengers flying out of Brisbane in business class or holding Gold or Platinum status with Malaysia Airlines Enrich or Qantas Frequent Flyer can unwind before departure at the Qantas International Lounge at Brisbane Airport. For those without lounge access, the newly opened Escape Lounge provides a paid-entry alternative. Located on the terminal’s mezzanine level, lounge access costs $65 if booked online in advance, or $80 on the day. Children under two years of age are admitted free, and guests are expected to follow a smart casual dress code.
The airline will increase its Sydney and Melbourne services
Malaysia Airlines’ return to Brisbane is backed by the Queensland Government’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund. The fund supports international connections for the state. Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said the relaunch reflects the airline’s commitment to reconnecting Malaysia and Queensland. He also highlighted Kuala Lumpur’s role as a key hub for travel into Asia and beyond.
This announcement also comes as Malaysia Airlines prepares to ramp up its Australian presence further. From October 2025, the airline will increase its Sydney and Melbourne services to three daily flights. This wil help to cater to the growing demand for travel between Australia and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, Qantas is exploring new international routes to Malaysia using its incoming fleet of A321XLR aircraft. These long-range, single-aisle jets are expected to unlock economically viable routes. Such as from cities like Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin, and Perth directly to destinations across Asia, including Malaysia.
