JCB signs ‘green’ hydrogen agreement with Australian firm

JBC, a construction equipment maker has signed a deal with Australian Firm Fortescue’s future Industries. (FFI). FFI says the deal is a ‘’ first-of-a-kind partnership’’ that would see it become the UK’s largest supplier of clean fuel.

According to the deal, JBC will take 10% of the green hydrogen made by the Australian company. Production will be done outside of the United Kingdom. The work expects to be start early next year.

Renewable Energy

Hydrogen is taken as an alternative option for heavy industries replacing fossil fuels. Hydrogen does not produce carbon dioxide when it is burn. In many countries, industrial firms use hydrogen to power trucks, trains, and other energy-intensive vehicles. Moreover, it is use in places consider difficult to decarbonize.

Lord Anthony Bomford, Chairman of JCB says ‘’ It’s fine having an engine power by green hydrogen, but no good if customers can’t get green hydrogen to fuel their machines. This is a major advance on the road towards making green hydrogen a viable solution.’’

Moreover, UK government’s hydrogen strategy would be helpful in the transition to net zero-balancing the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount of removal from the atmosphere.

An energy analyst at Cornwall Insights, Rober Buckle is optimistic about the deal and believes hydrogen has the potential to be a very important energy source for heavy industry. He also says that Australia has more solar electricity resources than the UK, as well as an established gas export industry. Additionally, this deal is ‘’an early advantage’’ for them.

Consequently, the latest deal ties with two hydrogen enthusiastic businesses in Billionaire Lord Bamford and JCB with FFI. And expectations are, that the technology can be commercial very quickly. The reduction in greenhouse emissions is related to fossil fuel usage. The import of green Hydrogen will minimize the use of fossil fuels.
