The Department of Health and Aged Care is building a new aged care service provider management system on Salesforce. The new service will replace the current 20-year-old national approved provider system (NAPS). The new system, called the government provider management system (GPMS). It will function as a repository for approved aged care services providers.
The Digital transformation and delivery division first assistant secretary Fay Flevaras announced in a recent webinar. As several deliverables for the GPMS had gone live at the end of 2022. Although the nature of these deliverables is unclear, they have been identified as releases 1.0 and 1.1.
Flevaras provided details on the technical underpinnings of the new platform, stating that “the government provider management system is the name of our new product which is being built on our Salesforce platform along with a lot of other software [including] MilSOFT, DocuSign. It’s a big foundational piece of work that will help to support the delivery of many of the initiatives that we’re running.”
Salesforce has been awarded an initial two-year deal worth $13.5 million to build the GPMS, according to a contract notification published this month. The contract was agreed upon through the DTA’s cloud marketplace and runs through to the end of January 2025. Accenture was also involved in the GPMS project in the second half of last year.
Quality service and Safety
The GPMS will establish a modern system to give aged care providers, government, and older Australians. It helps access to up-to-date information on the quality and safety of aged care services, according to a recently published fact sheet. To reduce complexity for providers and support their interactions with the government. The system aims to work towards a modern, consolidated, and single interface solution. Additionally, it may enable greater connectivity and data sharing between care providers and the government.
The GPMS will also act as a repository where aged care providers can review information relating to their star ratings. A new transparency system that rates the quality of services provided in residential aged care. Last year’s federal budget significantly increased funding for aged care. IT modernisation in response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
