Snap has recruited Eric Young, formerly a vice president of engineering for Google Cloud, as its new Senior Vice President of Engineering. In this role, Young will be responsible for overseeing the core infrastructure of Snap, the parent company of the popular photo messaging app Snapchat. He will also lead efforts to enhance Snap’s ad targeting and measurement capabilities on Snapchat, which have been affected by privacy updates on Apple’s iOS devices. Despite Snapchat’s growing user base of 750 million monthly users, Snap has faced challenges in generating revenue at a similar pace. To address this, the company has been taking steps to simplify user interactions with ads and improve ad relevance. Young brings extensive experience from Google, where he played a key role in developing tech infrastructure for products like search, ads, and YouTube. This appointment follows Snap’s recent hiring of Rob Wilk, former head of advertising at Microsoft, as President of the Americas region, and another Google executive to lead revenue products.
