Gold Fields Digitizes Operations at Granny Smith Gold Mine

Gold Fields Australia has embarked on a digital transformation journey at its Granny Smith gold mine, located approximately 740km northeast of Perth. The company has deployed an operations management system (OMS) developed by ABB, in collaboration with mining consultancy Enterprise Transformation Partners (ETP).

The OMS platform will connect Granny Smith’s workforce, fixed assets, and mobile equipment, aiming to enhance production scheduling efficiency and streamline data flow for informed decision-making. The system will support “what-if” scenario analysis and re-planning to maximize operational efficiency and financial opportunities.

Gold Fields Australia’s innovation and technology unit manager, Rob Derries, expressed the company’s commitment to delivering a modern, digitized mine that is both productive and sustainable. The digital platform is expected to significantly contribute to the mine’s productivity and improve decision-making capabilities.

The deployment of ABB’s OMS marks a significant step towards digital transformation in the mining sector, reflecting Gold Fields’ commitment to leveraging technology to enhance mining operations and sustainability.
