To consolidate its primary clinical and laboratory information management systems into a single, state-wide digital patient record, NSW Health has chosen US healthcare software firm Epic (SDPR).
Nine electronic medical record (EMR) systems, six patient administration systems, and five pathology laboratory information systems are now in use by NSW Health (LIMS).
NSW Health’s EMR instances are currently provided by Cerner and Orion Health, its PAS instances by Cerner and DXC, and its LIMS by Citadel (Auslab) and Integrated Software Solutions (OmniLab).
The modular, cloud-based platform will provide healthcare teams in NSW with real-time access to full medical records, according to NSW Health Pathology chief executive Tracey McCosker.
“Clinical insights acquired from the gathering of critical new data that enables continued innovation across the state will benefit patients and our busy staff,” McCosker added.
Creating a statewide laboratory information management system will ensure that we continue to offer the best services to the community and our partners for many years to come.
“Our work in pathology is crucial to the diagnosis process.”
While lots two and three were for hosting, lot one was focused on the “envisaged SDPR capabilities within the PAS, EMR, and LIMS environments,” including any support and operational management or the solutions.
Zoran Bolevich, chief executive and chief executive information officer of eHealth, stated that 350 stakeholders, including clinicians, scientists, and technicians, were consulted before Epic was chosen.
When asked about whether an SDPR would allow patients access to their own medical information, the agency made no mention of Bolevich’s statement that eHealth.
