Due to the floods on Australia’s east coast, the price of favourite Christmas Day beer could become expensive.
According to Justin Everitt, chair of the NSW Farmers Grains Committee, flooding on Australia’s east coast could lead to a rise in the price of beer, as crops such as barley have been depleted.
“The floods have had a significant impact on our ability to harvest and deliver grain to market,” Mr Everitt said.
“It will have an impact on the price of beer, unfortunately.”
Mr Everitt said the flooding had also impacted on the wheat crop, with some growers having to abandon their crops altogether.
“We’ve seen some pretty big losses in terms of wheat,” he said.
“Some growers have had water through their properties for weeks now and their wheat’s completely gone under.”
Mr Everitt said the floods had also destroyed canola and wheat crops.
“Some farmers have lost their entire crop,” he said.
