After Rebecca Schot-Guppy stepped down as CEO in August of last year, FinTech Australia has appointed Andrew Porter as its new CEO.
The fintech group represents over 420 such businesses and is a prominent supporter for the sector’s growth.
Schot-Guppy resigned from the position last year, telling iTnews that it was “the hardest choice of [her] life.” Porter stated today that leading “one of Australia’s important voices and influencers” in the fintech business is a “great honour.”
“I’ve been given the chance to give back to an industry that I’ve loved being a part of since its inception, and to assist promote its growth at a vitally inventive juncture,” Porter said.
FinTech Australia, according to Porter, may “lead the way in establishing fintech as a professional path from high school through to post-secondary education.”
“This is critical to fostering a stronger and more inventive domestic fintech industry, which is critical to the growth of the Australian economy,” he added.
Chair Simone Joyce described the hiring as “the next chapter in FinTech Australia’s job of stewarding the industry’s growth.”
Porter comes to FinTech Australia with a lengthy career as a financial services investor, with a portfolio that includes cloud-based platform Lawcadia and CryptoSpend, which just introduced a card for spending cryptocurrency in collaboration with Visa.
Porter was also a past board adviser to FlashX, a payment business that streamlines cross-border payment procedures, and spent over two years as chief investment officer at investment firm Aventine Capital, where he oversaw Internet startup investments.
Porter was formerly the managing director for Australia at WorldFirst for almost seven years, as well as a top executive at OFX and Travelex.
