Facebook is experimenting with subgroups in subscription

According to the firm, Facebook is investigating ways for artists to generate money using Facebook Groups, such as users paying fees for exclusive access to content or conversations within subgroups.

Facebook, which changed its name to Meta last week, claimed the test was part of a larger paid subscription push. The social media firm is one of several digital behemoths attempting to entice social media producers and their enormous followings with payouts and new capabilities.

Facebook, which has recently focused on community building as a strategy to promote engagement on the site, announced that Group admins would be allowed to run e-commerce stores to sell items or establish community fundraisers, which might offset the expenses of running a Group. In a dig at Apple’s subscription pricing, CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated on Wednesday that creators will be able to publish personalised URLs allowing them to receive money directly.

Last year, Facebook debuted its subscription service.
