Jessy Malone is from Dublin, Ireland. She’s been a makeup artist for over seven years – she does everything from Glam to gore and loves doing a variety of makeup so no day is the same day for her. She could be doing wedding makeup, the next day she shoots, or something really creative she put all her work, and different makeup looks on Instagram.
Her work has been shared internationally in magazines, newspapers online, articles, and TV. It shows that hard work pays off!
Here we sit down with Jessy, to learn a bit more about her journey as a female entrepreneur.
Q. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Jessy: Makeup is always been my passion, I used to take my mom’s lipstick as a baby and put it all over my face with the glitter eyeshadow I think I was gorgeous. I was always a huge fan of art, I would have copies of paintings on my walls as a kid growing up instead of pictures of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. It was always something I had a passion so it was an easy choice to make it my career.
Q. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Jessy: I posted pictures of my work on Instagram not thinking anything of it, I just did it because I loved it! my following started to grow and people reached out to me for jobs and work as I began to build my client base but I think it was because I had such a strong passion for what I do and makeup is what I love to do.
Q. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST STARTUP CHALLENGE? WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO OVERCOME IT? WHAT DID YOU LEARN?
Jessy: My biggest startup challenge was getting people to know who I was there are so many make-up artists and I have to think about what will make me different and stand out so I began to do creative looks beauty looks SFX Looks and it made me stand out I
I learned that once you are passionate about something and do your best to stand out everything else will follow You will get so many no’s Before you get a yes but once you get that yes they keep coming it’s so important to stay positive and believe in yourself and know that you can do it.
Q. WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE THING YOU’VE DONE SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?
Jessy: I’ve been lucky enough to travel to different countries around the world to hold master classes, it was a huge achievement for me and I’m proud of myself for it.
Q. WHAT IS ONE BOOK YOU RECOMMEND, AND WHY?
Jessy: Awaken the giant within by Tony Robbins it’s an amazing And inspiring book that will help you push yourself out of your comfort zone think differently And to try because you’ll never know unless you try to do something. I have pages highlighted That I will return back to you on read over.
Q. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE ONLINE APPS, TOOLS OR RESOURCES AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THEM?
Jessy: Instagram, because that’s where I get most of my work from and my clients. I love Pinterest for looking up inspiration, and for editing pictures, I love Face-tune.
Q. IN TERMS OF LEGACY, WHAT IS THE MARK YOU’D LIKE TO LEAVE ON THE WORLD?
Jessy: I’d like for people to be inspired by my work. I’m Dyslexic so I wasn’t great at the academic side of school I found it difficult, but that didn’t stop me you need to work on where you’re good at and passionate about. Focus on your strong points and remember that if you never try you never know. What you can truly achieve don’t listen to other people, push yourself and you’ll be surprised at what you can do and how you can inspire others.
Q. IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT ON THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY?
Jessy: Don’t give up keep practicing and keep trying you learn from getting it wrong so don’t be afraid to get it wrong so many times because when you do get it right it will be amazing practice makes perfect.
